This page serves as a transparent archive, allowing you to understand the Court's role in interpreting the governing documents of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and student organizations.

Advisory Opinions

Advisory opinions are interpretations provided by the Student Judicial Court upon request. These opinions help clarify the meaning and application of USG governing documents or other legal questions that impact student organizations. The SJC issues advisory opinions to:

  • USG Members: The President, Executives, and Senators of the Undergraduate Student Government can request advisory opinions when they need guidance on constitutional or procedural matters (Judicial Bylaws Section 2.6.3).
  • Recognized Student Organizations: Any student organization's president or elected leadership may also request an advisory opinion to help with legal questions or procedural concerns related to their organization (Judicial Bylaws Section 2.6.4).

Browse through these opinions to see how past requests have shaped policy and decisions across USG and student groups.
