The following list of resources goal is to help guide students towards finding the appropriate resource for their current needs.

    • Trans@Iowa 
      • Trans@Iowa exists as a resource for trans students, communities, and their allies. They embrace the responsibility to create a welcoming environment for all members of our community. This commitment includes all students, staff, and faculty as they pursue their goals.
    • Pride Alliance Center 
      • The vision of the Pride Alliance Center is to support student success and holistic wellness by providing a nurturing and affirming space for our LGBTQ students. The Pride House is a space for students to authentically exist and engage with their peers and UI community. 

 

  • "I need help finding my people outside of the University"

    • Transformations Cedar Rapids 
      • Transformations Iowa is a support group for transgender and non-binary people
    • United Action for Youth – LGBTQA Group 
      • United Action for Youth (UAY) is a nonprofit organization which has been supporting young people and families in Johnson County and surrounding areas since 1970.
    • PFLAG Cedar Rapids 
      • As extended family of the LGBTQIA+ community, we're made up of LGBTQIA+ individuals, family members, friends, and allies.
    • Iowa City LGBTQIA+ Group 
      • This is a support and friendship group for LGBTQIA+ people in the Iowa City area and surrounding areas. The intent of our group is to share local resources for our community and host local events to create community with each other.
    • TransVerse 
      • TransVerse is a support group for trans people and their allies. We work to extend across feelings of isolation and confusion to the connections that can grow through the community.

    • UCS Trans Inclusive Care 
      • University Counseling Service (UCS) is pleased to offer mental health services for Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Non-Binary students seeking assistance/support as part of transitioning.
    • Student Care and Assistance 
      • Student Care & Assistance provides assistance to University of Iowa undergraduate, graduate, and professional students experiencing crisis and emergency situations.
    • WRAC
      • WRAC works to create greater equity for individuals and communities of all identities, with a particular focus on women, through activism, social justice initiatives, leadership training, advocacy, service, and personal and professional development.
    • LGBTQ Clinic at UIHC
      •  An LGBTQ healthcare team proud to provide welcoming and affirming health care for all.
    • Queer Health Advocacy 
      • Queer Health Advocates are trained volunteers who accompany and advocate for members of the community who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, aromantic, queer, or questioning during medical appointments. Queer Health Advocates help their clients navigate the healthcare system and get the care they deserve. All our services are free and confidential.

    • Emma Goldman Clinic 
      • The Emma Goldman Clinic is a not-for-profit independent organization founded in 1973 by a group of women driven by feminist ideals. We exist to empower people of all gender and sexual identities in all life stages through the provision of quality reproductive health care that includes abortion services, gynecology services, safer sex promotion, and active education.
    • Iowa Trans Mutual Aid Fund 
      • They believe that every Trans, Nonbinary, and Gender Diverse Iowan should have access to gender-affirming care
    • Trevor Project 
      • The Trevor Project lets you reach out to a counselor if you’re struggling, find answers and information, and get the tools you need to help someone else.
    • LGBT National Help Center Hotline (888) 843-4564 
      • Here you can talk with our all-LGBTQIA+ volunteers, find resources, and community to empower you on your journey forward.
    • Transgender Map  
      • This free website shows how to make a gender transition. It tells about gender identity and gender expression, as well as the social, legal, and medical ways to make a transgender transition. It has lists of people who can help. You can learn how to pay for transition.
    • 877-565-8860 (Trans Lifeline)
      • Offering emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis, this organization has helped thousands of trans people.
    • 1-800-273-8255 (Suicide Prevention Lifeline)
      • This national resource, funded by SAMHSA, offers help to those that are contemplating suicide or self-harm.
    • 212-714-1141 (Anti-Violence Project)
      •  Report violence or get crisis intervention help with this organization for LGBTQ and HIV-positive people.
    • It Gets Better Project
      • ​​​​​​​ If you want to know that there are happy and successful queer people out there, the It Gets Better Project offers proof.
    • Family Acceptance Project
      • ​​​​​​​ This project aims to prevent major health and mental health risks for LGBTQ youth by increasing family acceptance.
    • The Q Card
      •  Talking with health providers can be hard for queer and trans young people, and the Q Card is an educational tool that can help young people self-advocate in health-care spaces.

    • Lavendar Legal Center 
      • Lavender Legal Center provides legal representation and related advocacy by and for LGBTQ  people
    • One Iowa 
      • One Iowa is a catalyst for improving the lives of LGBTQ Iowans. One Iowa advances, empowers, and improves the lives of LGBTQ Iowans statewide.
    • National Center for Transgender Equality 
      • NCTE was founded in 2003 by transgender activists who recognized the urgent need for policy change to advance transgender equality. With a committed board of directors, a volunteer staff of one, and donated office space, we set out to accomplish what no one had yet done: provide a powerful transgender advocacy presence in Washington, DC.
    • Transgender Law Center
      • ​​​​​​​This organization offers legal protection to transgender and gender-nonconforming people.
    • American Civil Liberties Union
      • ​​​​​​​The ACLU fights for LGBT rights on a national scale, fighting for common issues like adoption, anti-bullying laws, trans rights, and more.
