University of Iowa Undergraduate Student Government President Thomas Knudsen, Vice President Emily Cross, and Director of Governmental Relations Kartik Kalra recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with federal representatives and University of Iowa alumni.
The trip focused on student advocacy at the national level, with discussions centered on financial aid, affordability, and basic needs. The group also participated in policy roundtables featuring experts in higher education.
“Heading back to D.C. for the University of Iowa Hawkeye Caucus Day was an experience like no other,” Knudsen said. “The trip strengthened our federal advocacy efforts through meetings with half of Iowa’s federal delegation and a full day of policy roundtables on the most pressing issues in higher education.”
Cross said the visit offered “meaningful conversations, learning experiences, and networking opportunities” through meetings with congressional staffers and UISG alumni.
The delegation also attended the Together Hawkeyes Reception hosted by the Iowa Center for Advancement and a UISG Alumni Reception organized by USG Advisor Bill Nelson.
Knudsen expressed appreciation to the Office of the President, the UI Center for Advancement, and the Federal Relations Office for making the trip possible.
