Registration for Fall 2025 has not yet opened. Details will be emailed to students at the start of the semester.

Purpose Statement:

Student leaders contribute to the culture of student life at the University of Iowa. They make decisions that define student priorities, help determine institutional values, and serve as role models for thousands of their peers. If well-trained, student leaders can be a resource for improving campus culture and climate.

The goal of ORG TIPs is to equip student leaders with a set of well-rounded skill set that covers strategic planning, operational management, financial stewardship, personal well-being, and effective organizational culture. By mastering these areas, leaders will be better prepared to handle the diverse challenges of running a student organization and to foster a vibrant, successful community.

Upon completion of various training sessions, student organizations will be awarded $75, $100, & $125 depending on the number of trainings completed.

About the Trainings:

Selected student organizations will be able to have their student leaders attend any 3 out of the 7 available trainings to receive a total of $300 from USG to utilize as they deem appropriate.

  • $75 will be awarded for the attendance of the first training
  • $100 will be awarded for attendance of the second training
  • $125 will be awarded for attendance of the third training

All trainings will be conducted in person at the Student Activities Center (Room 260, IMU) on designated Mondays throughout the semester, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The trainings will address a range of student leadership topics and will be facilitated by university faculty and leadership. Each seminar is designed in alignment with the principles of The IOWA Challenge.

To be eligible for funding, student organizations with more than 30 members must have at least 5 students participate in a training while student organizations with less than 30 members must have at least 3 students participate in a training.

At each training, a small assortment of snacks will be provided for attendees.

Reflection Form & Participation Guidelines

At the end of each training, attendees will be given a QR code that connects them to a post-training reflection. Upon completion of the form, an attendee’s participation will be recorded, and their student organization will then be eligible for receiving funding if the necessary number of participants is met. For satisfactory participation in a Tier, student organizations with more than 30 members must have at least 5 students participate in a training category. Student organizations with less than 30 members must have at least 3 students participate in a training category. The membership of a student organization will be assessed using the QR code where students will have the opportunity to select which student organization they are representing. Attendees will not be able to complete a training on the behalf of more than one organization at a time.

Registration for ORG TIP$

Registered student organizations will receive an email that leads them to an Engage form where they can register their student organization and their members for participation in the program. Registration will remain open until the 10 student organizations have signed up for the program. Registration will operate on a first come, first serve basis. Following registration, members within each registered student organization will be able to sign up for slots to attend any of 3 out of 7 trainings offered. Student organizations who are unable to register for on the Engage page will still be able to have members participate in the program. After members from each registered student organization sign up for the trainings they select, vacancies will be filled by an email being sent to all organizations interested in ORG TIP$ informing them of the openings and allowing their members to sign up for the events on Engage.

If interested in having your organization receive emails about ORG TIP$ participation, please fill out this form.

Penalties for Insufficient Number of Attendees or Failure to Provide an Advanced Notice of Cancellation

Given that the trainings will be conducted by various University of Iowa faculty members, we wish to honor their time and effort. Therefore, student organizations must ensure that their registered leaders attend at least 3 out of the 7 trainings. Failure to do so will result in their organization being ineligible to participate in the program in future semesters. Additionally, unless unforeseen circumstances arise, attendees who register for a training but fail to attend without providing notice at least 72 hours before the training date will also incur the same penalty for their organization.

Please fill out this form to complete an excused absence.
