UISG Release on the September 9, 2015 Board of Regents, State of Iowa Meeting:

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa convened for the regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday, Septmeber 9th, 2015 at the University of Northern Iowa. Student leaders from all three universities presented to the Board regarding the proposed 3% tuition increase for the Spring 2016 semester. University of Iowa Student Government President Liz Mills called for a tuition freeze for University of Iowa students stating: “When the spring semester tuition increase was announced, I received feedback from my peers that they were concerned about tuition increasing mid-year. That extra $100 could mean a month's worth of groceries, 1/4 of a month's rent, or money for textbook rentals, a cost that's consistently increasing.” After considering student input, the Board of Regents adopted an amendment to exempt the University of Iowa from the tuition increase. In addition, the Board of Regents unanimously approved an amendment to include $4.5 million in increased appropriations in its legislative request. UISG appreciates the Board considering the unique needs of each institution and valuing college affordability for Iowans. UISG looks forward to continuing to work with the Board of Regents on behalf of the students at the University of Iowa.
